We are equally adept at developing and managing real estate assets throughout their lifecycle, as we are in evaluating and executing transactions to finance and acquire projects and businesses in other sectors.
Ombú Capital has acted as adviser and strategic partner to major institutional investors in benchmark M&A transactions and NPL portfolio acquisitions. We have been involved in over €1.5 billion of transactions in the Portuguese market.

Leonardo Mathias
Leonardo has over 30 years’ experience in financial markets and asset management. He is Chairman of SDR Portugal, Advisor to Brightgate Capital, Madrid, and served as Portugal’s Secretary of State of the Economy from 2013 to 2015. Leonardo founded independent asset manager, Dunas Capital, in 2010, which he sold in 2015. Prior to this, he was a Managing Director at Schroders for ten years, covering Spain and Portugal and serving on various international committees and boards, having begun his career at Banco Espirito Santo de Investimentos. He has a BA in Business Administration and International Finance and Marketing from the American University (Washington, DC).
Edouard Fernandez
Edouard has over 30 years’ experience in the real estate industry. He has been involved in developing or managing over $3.5 billion of commercial & residential real estate representing over 1 million square meters. Previously, Edouard was a Founding Partner and Co-Head of the Real Estate business line at EQT, one of Europe’s largest Private Equity firms. Prior to founding EQT Real Estate, he was co-founder and Managing Director of Wainbridge Limited, a private real estate investment, development and asset management company. He has held management positions at Hines, establishing several of their overseas offices including Mexico and Spain. He has a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Boston College and a Master of Science in Real Estate from M.I.T.
Luís de Almeida
Luis has more than 30 years’ experience in financial advisory and investment banking, executing more than €30bn of privatisations, M&A transactions, public offerings and restructurings in various sectors and geographies. He has held positions at UBS in London as Director of Corporate Finance, as Head of Rothschild in Portugal, Head of Citigroup’s Investment Banking franchise in Lisbon, and Director of Citigroup in São Paulo. In addition, he was a Member of the Board of real estate investment fund manager Selecta and is a Co-Founder and Member of the Board of cybersecurity company Bit Armor AG in Switzerland. Luis has an MA in Economics from Cambridge University.
Bernardo Sousa Mendes
Bernardo has more than 20 years’ experience in the real estate industry, across different uses and stages, ranging in values of up to €1 billion. He was Director at StormHarbour Securities and occupied senior key positions on the development of mixed-use and hotel schemes in Asia and West Africa. Bernardo was Asset Management and Expansion Director at Grupo Visabeira in Portugal and Mozambique, and prior to this, he was Design Manager at Sonae Sierra, for the development of shopping centres across Europe. He began his career at the City Council of Lisbon as an architect. Bernardo holds a Master’s Degree in Architecture and Urban Planning from FAUTL and an MBA from Oxford University.
